  3. The DVD Region Selector was NOT designed to work with ANY
  4. hardware decoding cards.
  5. Trying to use it with such a card may cause irreversible damage.
  6.  
  7. The CineMaster tab in DVD Region Selector is to be used with
  8. "Software CineMaster" and NOT the "CineMaster decoding card".
  9.  
  10. DVD Region Selector was NOT designed to work with DVD Drives
  11. that contain firmware lockable region code.
  12. Trying to use it on such drives is not recommended.
  13. To date this includes the Creative 5x Encore drives and
  14. the Compaq GD-2500 drives
  15. (Not the OEM Hitachi GD-2500 drives, they work fine).

  17. You can find out if your drive's firmware is region locked
  18. by visiting the DVD Infomatrix home page (see home page above)
  19. and downloading a small (5k) program that will test that
  20. for you.

  23. --- WinDVD Player notes:
  24.  
  25. The WinDVD region code will not be automatically detected,
  26. if you have WinDVD installed, just select the appropriate
  27. region and press "apply".
  28.  
  29. You may of course change the regions as many times as needed.

  32. --- ATI DVD Player v3.00 notes:
  33.  
  34. When installing the ATI DVD Player, it is highly advised
  35. that you get a CineMaster control panel file that is
  36. actually visible in the control panel.
  37.  
  38. The control panel file the ATI DVD Player installs is
  39. invisible and will not be accessable!
  40.  
  41. Also, the ATI Installation program does not seem to
  42. set ANY of the CineMaster decoding engine registry
  43. information including the region, decoding mode, sound
  44. quality, etc...
  45.  
  46. You will need to use either a working CineMaster control
  47. panel or DVD Region Selector in order to first
  48. initialize these settings for the ATI Player to even
  49. work!

  52. --- PowerDVD v1.30+ notes:
  53.  
  54. PowerDVD v1.30 uses three different region code protections,
  55. one of which is contained in the WIN.INI file.
  56.  
  57. When DVD Region Selector changes the WIN.INI file, it uses
  58. the Windows API routines to do so in order to be fully
  59. compatible with windows and to minimize chances of
  60. errors.
  61.  
  62. However, when the API calls are called, there is about
  63. 5 seconds delay between the call for a change, and
  64. the actual change.
  65.  
  66. So, after changing the PowerDVD v1.30 region setting,
  67. wait for about 5-10 seconds before running PowerDVD
  68. for the changes to take effect.
  69.  
  70. As a safety precaution, you may wish to backup the
  71. WIN.INI file before.

  74. --- Xing v2.03 and Windows 98 player notes:
  75.  
  76. When the Xing Player is used under Windows 98 it uses
  77. both it's internal region counter AND the Windows 98
  78. region information.
  79.  
  80. The Windows 98 region information is created the first
  81. time you try to play a DVD Title using either the Xing
  82. or Windows 98 DVD Players.
  83.  
  84. To reset the Windows 98 region counter you must manually
  85. erase the region key from the system registry.
  86.  
  87. DVD Region Selector will try to make your life easier by
  88. automatically locating the region key within the registry
  89. and displaying it within the "Win98" tab.
  90.  
  91. If no key was found under the "Possible Region Keys"
  92. panel, it may mean that either a key was not created
  93. (no DVD Title ever played on your machine) or that
  94. DVD Region Selector was unable to locate the key.
  95.  
  96. If the latter is the case, you may try to manually locate
  97. the Windows 98 region key using regedit (regedit.exe
  98. can be found in the Windows 98 directory).
  99.  
  100. Try locating it under:
  101. "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft"
  102.  
  103. If a key was located using the DVD Region Selector,
  104. make sure you export it using the export button.
  105.  
  106. Then use the erase button to clear the key and
  107. thus resetting the Windows 98 region setting/counter.
  108.  
  109. The next Title played will set the Windows 98
  110. region code to the Title region code.
  111.  
  112. And remember, under Windows 98 both the Xing
  113. region code and the Windows 98 region code
  114. are checked when the Xing Player is used, so
  115. remember to set the Xing Region code under
  116. the "Xing" tab.
